tiny-k Team Philosophy
tiny-k
's staff believes that early intervention services make a difference in the lives of children who have challenges due to a disability or developmental delay. We believe that children progress best when their family is invested in the services being provided. Therefore, the tiny-k team is supportive and respectful of each family and values their knowledge and priorities for their child. We look at each child as an individual with unique strengths and concerns, and build upon the child’s abilities to develop his or her skills. Early intervention focuses upon the “whole child” and the understanding that all areas of development affect one another. We believe that every child can grow and develop, and that children use naturally occurring opportunities in everyday activity settings and environments to practice what they are learning.

The staff emphasizes parent and caregiver involvement, and believes that the progress a child makes occurs in-between their visits due to daily practice. The staff’s visits are intended to help support the parents and caregivers by listening, offering suggestions and ideas, educating them about child development, modeling strategies, and providing resources so that parents can facilitate their child’s development throughout the day in many different ways. We believe respect for children is shown by following their lead, as well as introducing them to the world around them. Services are delivered through a “play-based” natural approach and activities which are fun and comfortable for both child and family. Parents, staff and others work together to develop comprehensive Individualized Family Service Plan outcomes that are meaningful, useful, help children participate in family and community activities, and reflect the child’s interests.

The tiny-k staff works collaboratively with all Early Childhood professionals and providers in the Douglas County community. We value teams and use a transdisciplinary approach, asking those who know the child best to help identify natural learning opportunities and carry out interventions. A strong foundation in child development is essential to providing effective early intervention services for young children with special needs.
